Anonymous asked: What schools have you applied to btw? And test scores (AP/ACT/SAT/IB/subject) may also play a heavy factor in admission decisions. Some schools don't even weight GPA too. And a high GPA may not tell much, it also depends on the rigor of your courses. And if you're applying for ivy leagues, valedictorian may not even mean much. Anyone can have many extra curriculars, but national competitions are what can make you stand out. Sad realities of an Asian. My friend just got into Stanford =/
A LOT. Let’s start. Stanford, U. of Chicago, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Brown, Notre Dame, Caltech, MIT, Rice, UCLA, Berkeley, Santa Barbara, San Diego, USC, Columbia, and Emory. Back up schools are Willamette and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. I probably applied to more and don’t even remember. hahaah. I was actually in this competition that would allow me to receive a full ride scholarship to one of the eight schools mentioned above (I’ll let your imagination run wild, they’re all very well known) and I became a finalist, but hey, things happen for a reason. I was bummed earlier until I realized the rejection letters were from schools I didn’t want to go to anyway. The application was free so I thought “Why not have a go?” I mean its upsetting but I’m not going to let it ruin my life, but it sure as hell ruins the moment when you open that letter. It sucks ass but I just kind of brush it off, sigh, and move on with life. To me, what’s meant to be is meant to be. Sad reality is that, yeah I’m Asian and it sucks that schools compare you instead of looking at who you really are but hey, C’est la vie right? But Mr or Ms Anonymous, I’m sure you will go far and many colleges will be dying to have you. Congrats to your friend also. I’m sorry if this didn’t answer your question but I write in the moment. When I wrote that rejection letter blog, I was sad as hell but I got over it and I just want people who are applying to universities to know that its not the end of the world if they get rejected, they just don’t know what they’re missing out on.
P.S Here’s my theory, if my ultimate number one choice school doesn’t accept me, I will forever hold a grudge against them and become the best person I can be and become successful without them. Then prove them wrong. HAH! I’m kidding. :)
